CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Canisius golf team closed out the 2017-18 season with a 289-292 dual match win over long-time rival Niagara Friday afternoon at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The Golden Griffins took three of the top-five individual spots in the match, led by sophomore Jaret Chipman, who tied for first with Niagara’s Christian Nizamis with an even-par score of 70.

The 70 for Chipman stands as his new career-low for a collegiate event, and allowed the Niagara Falls, Ontario native to record his second top-five finish on the year. Junior John Dantonio shot a two-over 72 to match his career-best round where he tied for third in the match along with sophomore teammate David Hanes. The third-place finish for Hanes marks the fourth career top-five finish for the Elma, N.Y., native in 14 college tournaments.

Senior Mark Lesinski carded a 75 in his final career event as a Griff. He tied for seventh in the field with his brother Matt Lesinski, who is a senior on Niagara’s roster. Freshman Matt Genaway finished in a four-way tie for 11th with his score of 78.

Freshmen Ryan MiskoMichael Wells and Patrick Weir all played as individuals for the Blue and Gold on Friday. Misko shot a 77, his lowest score of the season, while Wells and Weir carded 78 and 86, respectively.
