LOCKPORT — Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that Darrion A. Cotton, age 59, of Niagara Falls, entered a guilty plea to the charge of Assault in the First Degree. Cotton admitted to seriously injuring a gas station cashier by striking her in the head with a hammer during a robbery on January 19, 2024, in Niagara Falls. Cotton faces between 14 and 20 years in prison when he returns for sentencing on March 16th before Acting Supreme Court Justice Mario Giacobbe.

“This was a vicious and unprovoked attack,” said Seaman. “We will be seeking the full 20-year sentence.”

The case was investigated by the Niagara Falls Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Derek Hafner and Richelle Kloch-Krantz.
