WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — The Niagara women’s soccer team was defeated by the Monmouth Hawks, 2-0, on Wednesday in its final regular season road game.
 
SYNOPSIS 
In a rematch of the 2017 MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals, MAAC-leading Monmouth got the best of the Purple Eagles on Wednesday morning. In a match featuring two offensive-minded squads, the Purple Eagles were unable to get their offense clicking as the Hawks created the bulk of the scoring chances.
 
MOMENTS

  • Niagara had its first attempt on goal in the 16th minute coming off a corner kick. Kelsey Araujo sent in her corner which found Veda Hensel’s head but her shot went wide.
  • Monmouth scored the opener in the 30th minute. Jessica Johnson slipped a through ball behind the defense and Lexie Palladino beat the keeper near post.
  • Two minutes into the second half, Lauren Testa had her effort on goal saved.
  • Locas made a heads up save coming off a previously block shot in the 49th minute.
  • In the 51st minute, Hadley Bucken had a shot sail wide.
  • The Hawks scored their second in the 60th minute off a corner kick.

 
EAGLE’S EYE ON…

  • Sabrina Locas made six saves which are tied for her second most this season. She had six saves against Quinnipiac and Manhattan.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Purple Eagles, who lead the MAAC in shots per game (18.8), had a season-low five shots including one on goal.
