UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS


BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (10-5-0, 4-4-0 MAC) will return home on Thursday night for their first of three straight home matches to end the regular season. The Bulls will play host to the Toledo Rockets on Thursday night at 7:00 pm before welcoming the Bowling Green Falcons on Sunday afternoon. 
The Bulls are coming off of a 1-1 weekend as they were able to collect the 1-0 shutout victory over Miami (OH) on Friday night before closing out the weekend with a disappointing 1-0 loss at Ball State. Sophomore Kaitlyn Walshnetted the game-winner for the Bulls on Friday and UB was defeated by an own goal on Sunday against the Cardinals.
As a team, the Bulls have produced 31 goals so far this season which are the most in a season since scoring 33 during their historic 2014 campaign. Leading the UB offense of late has been a pair of sophomores in Marcy Barberic and Kaitlyn Walsh. Barberic ranks second on the squad with five goals, seven assists and 17 points while Walsh is on a tear of late, netting six goals and two assists for 14 points through 12 matches this season. Gurjeena Jandu and Tess Ford have also given the Bulls a nice boost from their defender positions as they have chipped in with a combined five goals, eight assists and 18 points.
Defensively, the Bulls are being led by Jandu and Ford while Rebecca Bramble and Adrianna VanCuyck have played strong on the back line so far this season. Andrea JudaszHannah CallaghanAbbey Callaghan and Meghan Simmons have also shown flashes of strong defensive play for the Bulls on the year. In goal, UB is led by freshman Emily Kelly who owns a 10-5-0 record to go along with a 1.24 goals-against average, a .783 save percentage and six clean sheets.
Toledo enters Thursday night’s match with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 MAC mark after falling to Ohio 1-0 on Friday and drawing Kent State on Sunday at home. The Rockets offense is led by Hannah Scafaria who leads the MAC with 13 goals, one assist and 27 points while Sophia Lewis is enjoying a nice season as she has four goals, a team-high seven assists and 15 points. In goal, the Rockets are led by Madison Perrin who owns a 7-5-2 record to go along with a 1.18 goals-against average, four clean sheets and 53 saves.
The Bulls will return to their home pitch on Sunday afternoon as they welcome MAC-leading Bowling Green for a 12:00 pm first kick. Sunday’s match will also be Senior Day for four UB players, Carissima CutronaRebecca BrambleMeghan Simmons and Rachel Villalta.
