Rocco J. Marra, 97, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on September 20, 2023 at his residence under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Concetta (Previte) Marra.
Rocco was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On May 6, 1950, he married Jean A. (Messina) Marra at St. Joseph Church. Rocco was employed at Certo Brothers Distributing as a delivery driver and at International Paper Mill in his younger years. He then went on to work for Niagara Concrete and later Empire Concrete as a construction delivery driver as a member of the Teamsters #449 for over 40 years until his retirement in 1988. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Rocco loved to travel out west, especially to Arizona, driving multiple times cross country. He also enjoyed coaching his sons’ Little League teams and playing the horses at OTB. Above all, Rocco will be remembered for his gentle, calm and caring demeanor, his generosity and willingness to put others first, as well as for his beautiful smile.
In addition to his wife of 73 years, Rocco is survived by his children, Rocco (Mary) Marra of North Tonawanda, NY, and Joseph (Marguerite) Marra of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marra and Megan Marra, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Rocco Marra, and his siblings, Anna Mae Marra, Frances (late Thomas) DeMunda, Sara (late Norman) Petri, and Joseph (late Millie) Marra.
Rocco’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 26 at 12 Noon at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. Entombment with Military Honors in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School; PO Box 300, Chamberlain, SD 57325-9919.
