NIAGARA UNIVERSITY – The Purple and White fell to defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in MAAC women’s soccer action from Niagara Field.

Niagara drops to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in MAAC play on the season, while Quinnipiac improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action. 

How it Happened
Niagara came out of the gates swinging, taking three shots in the first 10-minutes of action. Emma Bough and Amanda Cripps saw their shots go wide and Emily Hähnel saw her shot in the eighth minute get corralled by the Bobcat goalie.

The Bobcats would test Niagara’s sophomore keeper Kelsey Riordan in the 12th minute with their first shot on goal, with Riordan making her first of 11 saves on the afternoon. The Bobcats would keep the pressure on the Purple Eagles back line, taking four shots over the next 10-minutes before beating Riordan for the games first goal of the contest in the 25th minute of action.

Quinnipiac made it a 2-0 game moments before the end of the first half.

Quinnipiac would quickly double its lead over NU in the second half with goals in the 58th and 67th minutes of play.

Riordan would make four of her 11 saves including a pair of leaping stops, to keep the Bobcat lead at four. Isabella Mazzaferro took Niagara’s lone shot of the second half in the 84th minute, but her effort went just wide of the goal.

Niagara Notes
• Saturday marked the 12th all-time meeting between Niagara and Quinnipiac, with the Bobcats improving to 3-8-1 all-time against the Purple Eagles.
• Riordan made a career-high 11 saves in the loss.
• Niagara finished the game with five shots, one of which was on goal, as well as two corners.
