Junior keeper Jordan Spencer recorded nine saves to pace Canisius in a 0-0 draw versus Binghamton in collegiate women’s soccer action Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex in Vestal, N.Y.

Both the Golden Griffins and Bearcats moved to 0-1-1 on the young season with Sunday’s scoreless tie.

Binghamton out-shot Canisius by a 12-2 margin during the first half but were unable to solve Spencer, who turned aside all seven of the Bearcats attempts on goal during the opening frame.

Binghamton recorded its first two shots of the game in the sixth minute when Hannah Mimas and Paige Luke put a pair of shots on frame within a nine-second span that Spencer was able to keep out of the Griffs goal.

The Bearcats nearly struck in the 25th minute as Grace Vittoria rifled a shot off of the crossbar followed by another chance from Mimas that went just over the net.

Canisius got its first opportunity of the afternoon moments later as junior Emma Oliphant found herself on a breakaway. Binghamton goaltender Kaitlyn Williams neutralized the threat, however, knocking the ball away from Oliphant before she could put a shot towards the goal.

Spencer folied another Bearcats scoring attempt in the 33rd minute, punching the ball over the net off a shot from Alex Marstellar.

Canisius’ first sustained pressure of the contest came in the 40th minute. Junior Maddy Ingraham had a shot attempt that was blocked, followed up by a shot from the foot of freshman Maggie Cregan that Williams was able to corrall.

Binghamton started off the second half with a chance from Olivia Mcknight that was shoved wide by Spencer, followed minutes later by a shot off of a corner by Sophia Garofalo in the 53rd minute.

The Griffs first chance of the second half came from the foot of junior forward Madeline Weltinbut her shot would miss the goal high left.

Binghamton appeared to take a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute as the Bearcats were able to beat Spencer, but the goal would be called back due to Samiya Reid being ruled offsides.

Sophomore Skylar Cornell had Canisius’ second shot of the second half but missed just right of the net in the 78th minute

The Griffs final chance came once again from Cornell, this time in the 88th minute, but she would send her shot over the net
