Josephine J. Portik, 76, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances (Virga) Marra; and the beloved wife of the late John F Portik, Jr., whom she married May 22, 1971 at St. Joseph’s Church.
Josephine was a graduate of Madonna High School. She worked for the Niagara Falls Board of Education for a short period prior to the birth of her children.
As a devout Catholic, praying the Rosary was part of her everyday life. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church.
An avid shopper, Josephine was frequently seen throughout the local stores, bargain hunting at garage sales or in front of the TV spending on QVC. She was also a talented beadmaker, enjoyed playing bingo and reading. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family.
Josephine is survived by her children, John Portik III and Judith-Anne Portik; her grandchildren, Alissa Portik, Tyler Portik and Kaleb Steele; her godchild and cousin, Lisa Virga; her cousins, Lori Costello, Fifi Ann Sandonato, Joseph Bruscato, Dianne Kee and Marlene Morris. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant brother and her cousin Russell Virga.
Visitation will be Friday, August 18 from 4 – 7 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Saturday at 11:15 AM, followed by Josephine’s Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in St. Joseph’s Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to St. Joseph’s Church.
