Peter S. Fatouros, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2023. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Sarontos ‘Steve’ and Elizabeth (Stack) Fatouros.
Peter attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Bishop Duffy High School. He proudly served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Dental Technician third class in 1955.
On September 7, 1957, he married his beloved wife, Dorothy (Warnock) Fatouros at the former Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls.
Peter was employed for 38 years at Great Lakes Carbon Corporation in the finishing, Industrial Engineering and Quality Control Departments prior to his retirement in 1994.
Peter’s interests were in sports, reading, traveling and volunteer work. As a volunteer, he was a treasurer of the Retired Men’s Service Club, and member of the Pastoral Care Department at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital as a volunteer visitor and Eucharistic Minister.
Peter was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Leo’s Church in the Town of Niagara, where he served as a Liturgist, Alter-server coordinator, member of the Apostolic Committee and a church trustee, and taught Religious Education for over 40 years. At Prince of Peace Church, he was also a member of the Monday Novena Rosary team.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Niagara Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Peter.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his daughters, Dorothy Ann (Gary) Waterhouse, Theresa (Adam) Glichowski, Diane (David) Godwin, Mary Bass (Franco Ciotoli); sons, Peter M. (Gretchen) Fatouros and Stephen (Patti) Fatourous; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings Carmelita Fatouros and Harold Fatouros.
In accordance to Peter’s wishes, there will be no prior visitation. Peter’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 4 at 10:00 AM in St. Leo’s Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Military honors and entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.SERVICES
