Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 39-year-old Reginald J. Jordan of Buffalo was sentenced this afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 20 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On September 20, 2019, at approximately 8:50 p.m., first responders went to an apartment on Grote Street in the City of Buffalo after receiving a 911 call for an infant who was not breathing. The baby was taken by ambulance to Oishei Children’s Hospital. The victim, 6-month-old King Jordan, died at the hospital two days later.

The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the child died from blunt force trauma to his head and neck. An investigation found that the defendant, the father of the victim, caused the fatal injuries by intentionally shaking the infant.

Jordan pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony) on March 21, 2023.

DA Flynn commends Detectives Scott Malec and Mark White as well as the late Detective Sgt. James Dunham of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine M. Garvey of the Felony Trials Bureau.
