Have you ever wanted Pre-AI Pestilence, Atheist, Cynic and Death rolled into one groovy band? The sophomore album “Reminiscence” from Miscreance will scratch that itch for you. I have never heard of the band until the singles leading up to the album. I’m hesitant when thrash is throwing into the mix because I listened to so much in my teens I’m burnt out on it. But when a band mixes several styles with it, I’m more inclined to listen. And boy am I obsessed with this record. The vocals are almost exactly like a young Patrick Mameli.
Is it fast? Most definitely but there’s a lot of variety. It isn’t a mindless ripoff and if it was I wouldn’t be promoting it. In fact it’s the total opposite. The aggressive fast riffs bring you back to “Consuming Impulse”; but when it slows down with some guitar harmonies arise you can’t help but feel the Schuldiner influence. It’s a very palatable listen at 38 minutes through 9 tracks.
The Italian four piece really put in a very solid effort all around on “Reminiscence”. I love the mix particularly how audible the bass is, and that’s a lost art. Countless times it gets buried unnecessarily with the kick drum and it shines big time here. The drum work is great, considering the many styles this album tackles. Very consistent, clean and thorough. Also, that logo screams 1993 and I mean that in a good way.
It’s easily going down as one of the most underrated albums of 2026. On the other hand it’s also one of the better albums I’ve heard this year. Give this record the time of day you won’t be disappointed. “Reminiscence” drops this Friday August 28th on Willowtip Records.
