Joseph C. Mauro, 91, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Piane Crati, Cosenza, Italy, he was the son of the late Carmine and Anna (Sicoli) Mauro.

Joseph moved to the United States in 1947 and was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. He served as a Corporal in Korea and was stationed in the DMZ. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and became a United States Citizen upon returning to Niagara Falls.

On June 24, 1954, he married his beloved wife, Louise (Alcuri) Mauro at St. Joseph’s Church. Mrs. Mauro predeceased him on November 7, 2020 after 66 memorable years together.

Joe was employed by the City of Niagara Falls as a Foreman at the Hyde Park Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing, reading, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He also loved traveling with his wife in their younger years. Joe was loved by all and often referred to as the sweetest man. Joseph centered his life around his family who will miss him dearly.

Joseph is survived by his children, Clara (David) Hughes and Tina (James) DeDario; two grandchildren, Michael (Dominika Tanianis) Rodriguez and Sarah (Marques) Kidd; his great-grandchildren, Maximilian, Bryson and Sofia; his sister-in-law, Patricia (late Louis) Sciarrino; his best friend of 75 years, Sam Floro, and Sam’s family, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 25 at 10:00 A.M. at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY.
