Arthur ‘Art’ John Ponzi, 89, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on March 6, 2023, after a brief illness, surrounded by his wife of 67 years and their four children. They were the greatest joys of his life.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Pompilio ‘Anthony’ and Josephine (Colosi) Ponzi, and the adored husband of Rosalie (Muzzillo) Ponzi. He graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1951, and entered the Army. Shortly after his discharge in 1953, he walked into a record store and fell in love with the girl behind the counter. Rosalie finally gave in to his relentless advances, and their love story began. Until the end, he called her the most beautiful girl in the room.

Art loved his hometown of Niagara Falls, and his presence was felt by all who lived there. He spent his life in the automobile business, where his customers loved and appreciated his integrity. Art started at Duncan Motors, and worked at various dealerships before owning his own, Niagara Falls Lincoln Mercury. His highlight every day was lunch at the Como, where he played hearts with his buddies and tormented the waitresses. He also loved to golf and was a longtime member of Niagara Frontier Country Club. He was proud of his five hole-in-ones.

Art was a gentle giant and will most be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. He lit up a room with his smile, laughter and silly jokes. He’d walk into a restaurant and make the rounds, greeting everyone he knew, which was usually everyone. Art was the epitome of love. He loved unconditionally. His love of his family was unequalled. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were everything to him, and they adored him. He had countless friends and loved each one of them dearly. He also loved his little dog, Enzo. Art was a devout Catholic and loved his church, St. Peter’s.

In addition to his wife, Rosalie, Art is survived by his children, Michael (Diana) Ponzi, Michele (Greg) Kozar, Maria (Rob) Luce, Art Ponzi, Jr.; his grandchildren, Justin Ponzi, Christina Gohlke, Andrew (Jaimie) Kozar, Gina Kozar, David McFarlin, Emily Luce, Jake Luce, Sarah Ponzi and Natalie Ponzi; his great-grandchildren, Hayden and Mia Kozar, Grayson and Remie Gohlke; his brother, Larry (Pam) Ponzi; his daughter-in-law, Marie Caprino, and countless nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Loretta Ciadella and Tony Ponzi.

A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held at a later date to be announced. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
