WILLIAMSVILLE — The Niagara men’s tennis team played it’s first home match of the spring season as they hosted Daemen. The Purple Eagles downed the Division II foe 7-0.
Match Recap
Doubles

  • The Purple Eagles won all three doubles matches. In the doubles one match, the duo of Trevor Masi and Tanner Bedard won 6-4.
  • Manuel Alonso and Bryce Bodak won 6-3 in the second doubles match.
  • Gurustat Makkar and Rohan Srivastava closed out doubles and secured the doubles sweep as they won 6-2 in third doubles.

Singles

  • Bedard’s success from doubles continued into singles. He was slotted in the first singles position, he won 6-2 in the first set and swept the second set 6-0.
  • In the second singles position, Masi was forced to win seven games in the first set but won 7-5. He responded in the second set with a 6-2 win to secure the match.
  • Bodak came out firing in the first set as he won 6-1 in the first set. In the second set he won the match as he downed his opponent 6-3 in the second set.
  • Makkar continued the success for the Purple Eagles as he opened the fourth singles match with a 6-0 win. In the second set, he secured the team point with a 6-2 win in the second set.
  • Roberto Vaca dominated in the fifth singles position. He won a pair of sets 6-1 to secure the match win.
  • Salvador Vázquez won his first match of the season in the sixth position. He won 6-1 to open the match and secured with win with a 6-0 win in the second set.

Niagara Notes

  • It is the first time that Srivastava has won a doubles match in a duel as a Purple Eagle.
  • The Purple Eagles are now 2-1 this season in duel matches with their other win also coming over Daemen in the fall.
  • Niagara has yet to lose a match to Daemen this season.

Up Next

  • The Purple Eagles are now off for the next week before they travel to Cleveland on Feb. 12 to take on Ball State and Cleveland State.
