CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canisius junior forward Nick Hutchison has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association’s Travel Team USA Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.

The honor marks the second time in as many seasons that the Hicksville, N.Y., product has taken home the league’s inaugural weekly award after a strong start to the season.

Hutchison tallied three goals and an assist in the Golden Griffins’ split of their season-opening series at Holy Cross last weekend. In the first game between the two sides, Hutchison scored a power-play goal and added an assist before scoring twice in the series finale the following evening, a 7-6 victory for Canisius.

Hutchison netted multiple points in back-to-back games for just the third time in his career with four-point weekend. His two power-play goals against the Crusaders also increased his career total in that category to 16, putting him within striking distance of the program’s top five list for man-advantage tallies during the Division I era.

Canisius (1-1-0, 1-1-0 AHA) begins the home portion of its 2018-19 slate this weekend when it welcomes defending Atlantic Hockey Tournament champion and preseason favorite Air Force to KeyBank Rink at Harborcenter for a pair of games.

The Griffs and Falcons open their series Oct. 19 before squaring off in the finale the following evening. Start time for both contests is slated for 7:35 p.m.

The Oct. 20 contest serves as the team’s Pink the Rink game, supporting the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink initiative. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the campaign.

Tickets for both games are available. They can be purchased by visiting the tickets page on GoGriffs.com or by calling 716-888-TIXX.
