CLERMONT, F.L. — Buffalo State dropped a 5-1 decision to Middlebury on Sunday afternoon at the Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Fla.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Danielle Szymkowiak (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) and Nicole Adams (Lockport/Starpoint) each finished 1 for 3 from the plate accounting for both of Buffalo State’s hits.
  • Marissa Hayes (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was credited with the loss on the hill, allowing five runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work.
  • Middlebury opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning off of three hits.  
  • Buffalo State responded with a pair of singles from Adams and Szymkowiak in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit in half.  
  • The Panthers extended its lead to 5-1 with two runs off of two doubles in the top of the fifth inning and one run off of two singles in the top of the sixth inning.



FOR THE FOES



  • Emily Moore and Irene Margiotta led the Middlebury offense, hitting 2 for 4 and 2 for 3 respectively.
  • Allison Quigley picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers.
