ELMIRA — For the fifth consecutive season and the sixth time in the past seven years, the Elmira College women’s lacrosse team has been recognized as an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
EC was one of a combined 300 Division I, II, III and NAIA institutions to garner Academic Honor Squad accolades from the IWLCA for their outstanding success in the classroom in 2016-17. In order to qualify for this prestigious honor, a team must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
In addition to the Academic Honor Squad award, the IWLCA named six Soaring Eagles to its Division III Academic Honor Roll including Kylie Connell of Rush, NY (14543). In each of the past three years, the Purple and Gold have had six student-athletes named to the IWLCA/Zag Sports Honor Roll.
The IWLCA honored 531 student-athletes from 156 different institutions on the 2017 IWLCA/Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this award, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student, and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater.
“As a program we value the importance of academic achievement,” said head coach Alexa Tardif. “The team and those named to the Honor Roll deserve this recognition, they’ve worked tremendously hard. I am very proud of their accomplishments in the classroom and on the field.”
Elmira College is a private, coeducational, Phi Beta Kappa college founded in 1855, located in Elmira, New York. The College has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 1,200 full-time mostly-residential students, and is the guardian of Quarry Farm where Mark Twain wrote many of his most iconic novels and is today a research center for visiting Twain scholars. The College has been ranked as a Best College in the Northeast by The Princeton Review and a Top Tier national liberal arts college by U.S. News & World Report, which also ranked Elmira College as a leading college, nationally, for student internships. The Philadelphia Inquirer cited the Elmira College campus as ‘picture postcard perfect.’
