Hello Metalheads! This is John back with a little something different, a metal show review! I don’t go to many shows these days but would love to get to more. A few nights ago I caught Galactic Empire in Buffalo in my neck of the woods and daaaamm did they out perform any hype that I had going into the show.
So for those who don’t know who Galactic Empire are, they initially were known for doing metal covers of Star Wars music, but in their album from last year branched out into a variety of different movie music. On the flyers for their shows, they always say, “cosplay is encouraged.” As an old school Star Wars nerd, I grabbed right onto this a long time ago when I first heard this group. Then when I heard their new stuff I was equally impressed, especially with their rendition of the Harry Potter music from last year. I knew I had to get my ass to this show.
They have an incredibly tight sound on their albums and I was very curious to see if they could pull it off live. Well they blew my socks and shoes right off of my feet at this show. As soon as they started with the 20th Century Fox theme at the beginning of movies and shows I knew this was going to be great. When they lead off into Star Wars music with the main theme it was just so cool. The Imperial March is what melted my brain the first time at this show. The guys even had pre recorded skits with some voice acting, that they then acted out! They pretty much all had me laughing out loud. As an added kicker, their bassist came out into the crowd during the Cantina Band song and was jamming out.
The drummer is the unsung hero of this band. He holds the groove TIGHT and just shreds behind the kit. Blast beats, fast double bass, creative beats and long embellished fills comprise his night. The three guitarists and bassist are at the forefront of the stage when Galactic Empire grace the venues they come to.
So whether you are a Star Wars fan or a metalhead, you need to go see Galactic Empire! They had quite a few shirt designs that either fandom would love, plus they even sold their own version(with a different name) of a light saber! I know I was thoroughly impressed and entertained throughout the entire set.
