BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo track and field team had an outstanding performance at the UB Invitational on Saturday that left the team with 20+ new personal best, two new meet records, and several Top-Three finishes.
Selina Von Jackowski had an impressive performance at the meet. She placed first in one individual and two relay events. Von Jackowski’s most impressive performance came in the women’s 100 hurdles where she finished with a new personal best. She ran just three-thousandths of a seconds faster than teammate Christine Lyttle for first place, clocking in at 13.833. This time broke the previous meet record of 14.21. Lyttle was also under the meet record time, clocking in at 13.836. The Bulls also took third through fifth in the event. Nikari Carota set a new personal best time, finishing third in 14.26. Kailyn Arcury took fourth (14.30) and Brianna Colello took fifth (15.66). Von Jackowski also took first in the women’s 4X100 and 4X400 relays. Alongside teammates Arcury, Lyttle, and Tyra Forbes, the team finished with a time of 46.58 in the 4X100. Von Jackowski was the lead in the first place 4X400 relay that clocked in at 3:58.97. The team included Sydney March, Colello, and Amy Villarini.
Stephanie Ward led the way for all athletes in the women’s 3000m. The freshman clocked in at 9:51.72 for first place, breaking the meet record by nearly 20 seconds. Also under the meet record times were second place Sylvia Russell and third place Rachel Barich who clocked in at 10″02.04 and 10:05.73, respectively. Barich’s time was a new personal best in the 3000m.
Miranda Daucher took first place in the discus and hammer throws. Daucher threw to a new personal best of 54.84m in the hammer throw. She also threw for a distance of 49.95m in the discus. Not far behind was teammate Jess Dhaliwall. Dhaliwall threw a new personal best mark of 42.49m in the throw for second place.
The Bulls had an outstanding performance in the men’s 400 hurdles, taking first through fourth. Mitchell Moore led the way, clocking in at 53.00. Treyvon Mask and Chimaobi Ezeilo were not far behind, both marking new personal best times in the event. Mask clocked in at 54.92 for second, and Ezeilo at 56.52 for third. Zachary Jones placed fourth in the event with a time of 58.60.
Christian Doherty took first in two events: 110 hurdles and long jump. Doherty clocked in at 14.80 in the 110 hurdles. His distance of 7.03m in the long jump led the way for the Bulls who placed first through third. Brian Cummiskey took second (7.03m) and Ryan Billian took third (6.91m).
The Bulls took first in eight more events: 200m, 4X100, 4X400. Joshua Gali clocked in at 21.56 in the 200m, just missing out on setting a new meet record by nearly .5 seconds. Gali was also a member of the first place 4X100 team that clocked in at 41.53. The team consisted of Brian Cummiskey, Mitchell Fuller, and Ryan Billian. The 4X400 team of Kaishaun Cathey, Ray Anikwue, Stephen George, and Fuller clocked in at 3:25.81 for first place.
Sam Wray had an outstanding performance in the throws, as he walked away with a first place finish in the discus and a fourth place finish in the hammer. Wray’s distance of 51.31m in the discus also set a new personal best for the freshman. Devon Patterson placed first in the men’s shot put with a distance of 17.77m. Daniel Normoyle also took first place in his respective event. Normoyle cleared a height of 4.74m in the men’s pole vault.
“We always look forward to our home invite” said head coach Vicki Mitchell. “Our student athletes take advantage of the home field; with support of family, teammates, and friends. And today was extra special to be able to honor our fantastic group of seniors.”
