BUFFALO — University at Buffalo tight end Mason Schreck was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. The Medina, Ohio native was taken with the 251st pick.

Schreck had by far his best season as a Bull in 2016. The senior tight end finished the year with 59 catches for 651 yards and four touchdowns en route to earning All-MAC Second Team honors. He had 10 more catches than his first three seasons combined and his 651 receiving yards were the most ever by a tight end in school history. He finished his career with 108 receptions for 1,120 yards and six touchdowns.

Schreck is the first tight end in school history to be selected in the NFL Draft. He is also the first UB player ever drafted by the Bengals. The Bulls have had a good run in recent drafts, with selections in four of the last five and seven of the last 10 NFL Drafts.

In addition to Schreck being drafted by the Bengals, former running back Jordan Johnson signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills. Johnson will get a chance to play for his hometown team after a stellar senior season. The Bulls’ senior rushed for 1,040 yards on 200 carries for a 5.2 yards-per-carry average and was named All-MAC Third Team. He had the best game by a running back in UB history when he rushed for a school-record 282 yards against Akron on October 27. Johnson scored seven touchdowns on the season, including six on the ground.
