AMHERST — The Purple Eagles competed at the UB Invitational on Saturday in their final tune-up before the MAAC Championships.

Morgan Palmer finished fourth in the discus throw. Her fifth throw went 39.14m. Maggie Gerard was sixth (31.85m) followed by a season-best toss by Erin Clark (29.0m). Gerard, Palmer and Clark all had personal records in the shot put. Gerard placed fourth in the shot put with a 12.10m toss on her third attempt. Palmer was fifth with a toss of 11.83m and Clark was eighth (8.66m). Freshman Elizabeth Suhay set a school record in the triple jump (10.09m). Jamie Guadango was 13th in the long jump (4.77m).

Freshman Akira Thornton led Niagara in the 200m with a seventh place finish. Thornton ran the race in a personal best time of 26.59. Maggie Doyle was 11th with a time of 26.75. Caroline Hampton finished fourth in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:24.32. Kelly Nichols had a personal best time of 13.20 to finish 11th in the 100m. Mara Skordynski finished fourth in the 400m (1:00.66).
Freshman Alex Laubert was sixth in the 100m hurdles (16.15) followed by Jenna Minges (17.35). The 4×100 relay team of Akira Thornton, Maggie Doyle, Jamie Guadagno and Monique McBride ran a season-best time of 49.43 for a third place finish.

The Purple Eagles will compete in the 2017 MAAC Championships from May 6-7 in Lawrenceville, N.J.
