The Bisons were held to just four singles in a 3-0 loss to the Bulls on Friday night from Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Buffalo failed to advance a runner to third base in falling to 13-7 on the season. However, the 20-game start is still the second-best the club has had in the past 10 seasons behind only their 15-5 beginning to the 2013 campaign.
Darrell Ceciliani, Christian Lopes, Mike Ohlman and Dwight Smith Jr. had the hits for Buffalo, but all were in separate innings. Bulls’ starter Jacob Faria improved to 3-0 on the season by striking out 11 batters over the first six frames. The only inning he didn’t have multiple punchouts in was the second when he erased his lone walk on the night with a doubleplay off the bat of Jason Leblebijian.
T.J. House racked up the strikeouts as well with eight five innings of work. However, the lefty yielded eight hits with Durham scoring in three of the first four innings.
First baseman Casey Gillaspie got the Bulls on the board in the two-out single off House in the first. Third baseman Patrick Leonard got the clutch two-out hit in the third to cash in Durham’s second run before the Bulls tacked on a third tally in the fourth to seal the win.
Murphy Smith helped save a third bullpen from back-to-back doubleheaders in Norfolk. Smith worked the final three innings and allowed just one base runner while striking out three.
