LEWISBURG, Pa. – The University at Buffalo track and field team split up for the weekend, with some traveling to the Bryan Clay Invitational and the rest at the Bison Open at Bucknell University.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Bulls saw a broken school record, a first place finish, and a new personal best from three separate runners. Brian Crimmins broke the previous school record in the 1500m. He clocked in at 3:46.33 to rank him first in the Mid-American Conference and 27th in the NCAA East. Craig Kaiser also had a good showing, clocking in at 3:49.87 for a new personal best and ranking fourth in the MAC. Tyler Scheving placed first in the men’s 800m, clocking in at 1:48.70 to set a new meet record.
At the Bison Open, the Bulls saw several impressive performances. Barrett Kemp broke the school record in the 10,000m. He clocked in at 28:48.24 for ninth place. His time currently ranks 37th in the NCAA East. Sylvia Russell and Stephanie Ward each set freshman records in their respective events. Russell ran to a finishing time of 10:49.29 to place seventh overall in the 3000m steeplechase. This time currently ranks her fifth in the conference. Ward ran her 5000m debut at the Bison Open. She set a freshman record after clocking in at 16:51.42 for tenth place in the event. This is the third fastest outdoor 5000m for a UB woman. Caleb Covell’s performance in the men’s 5000m just missed the UB freshman record. Covell clocked in at 14:46.05 for 16th place.
Meagan Hopkins ran a fourth fastest time in Buffalo history in the women’s 10,000m. She clocked in at 35:43.58 for fifth place at the event.
Miranda Daucher had a great finish in the discus throw. She threw to a distance of 51.72m (169′ 8″) for a first place finish. Her distance broke the facility record set back in 2011 by former Bull and MAC Champion Becky O’Brien. Mikayla Pearce also had a great performance in the triple jump. She jumped to a distance of 11.89m for seventh place.
The Bulls are back in action on Saturday with Brian Crimmins, Craig Kaiser, and Tyler Scheving competing at the Long Beach Invite and the rest of the team at the Bison Open.
