BUFFALO — Human trafficking will be the subject of the February episode of “Our Daily Bread,” the monthly cooking show featuring host Father Paul D. Seil.  The show, produced by Daybreak TV Productions of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, will air at 6:30 a.m. and noon Saturday on WKBW-TV Channel 7.

Feb. 8 is recognized as the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking. According to the United States Department of Homeland Security, “Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act.” It is estimated that people around the world who are trapped in some form of slavery number 28.9 million.

Pope Francis called human trafficking a crime against humanity, saying “We must unite our efforts to free the victims and stop this increasingly aggressive crime which threatens not only individuals, but the basic values of society.”

Tara Hughes, trafficking services coordinator at the International Institute of Buffalo, visits Father Seil in his kitchen on this month’s show to help everyone better understand this topic. They also discuss the Human Trafficking Victim Services program which provides assistance to victims in the eight counties in Western New York.

To learn more about human trafficking, tune in on Saturday. Check the show’s website, www.odbtv.org, for recipes from the show.
