BUFFALO — Rasmus Ristolainen recorded two points tonight against the New York Islanders — including the game winning goal in overtime. 
The Sabres trailed 1-0 and 2-1 before finally taking the lead when it mattered with Ristolainen’s goal. He now has points in five straight games. 
New York got the first goal as Ryan Strome scored an even-strength goal at 13:08 of the first period. Cal Clutterbuck and Niklay Kulemin assisted. 
Johan Larsson tied the game at 1 on an even-strength goal of his own at 2:32 of the second period, assisted by Ristolainen and Jake McCabe. New York re-took the lead four minutes later on the power play. Shane Prince assisted on the Alan Quine goal. 
Matt Moulson tied it again 3:19 into the third period on a Buffalo power play. Evander Kane and Brian Gionta assisted. 
In overtime, Ristolainen’s game-winner was assisted by Kyle Okposo just 42 seconds into play.

  • With the win, the Sabres improved to 7-3-2 in their last 12 games, including a 6-2-1 record in their last nine home games.
  • Nine of the last 10 games between these teams in Buffalo (and 14 of the last 18 overall) have been decided by a single goal.
  • With his goal tonight, Matt Moulson now has seven points (6+1) in eight career games against the Islanders.
  • Moulson finished the game tied for second in the NHL with seven power-play goals this season.
