BUFFALO — Jack Eichel scored a pair of goals in leading the Buffalo Sabres to double up on the visiting Los Angeles Kings 6-3 Tuesday night.

The Kings took a 2-0 lead on the Sabres with goals by Anze Kopitar in the first period and Jeff Carter in the second. Then at 9:31 of the second period, Ryan O’Reilly got the Sabres on the board, assisted by Rasmus Ristolainen. At 13:36 of the second, Eichel tallied his first, assisted by Kyle Okposo and Matt Moulson. Brian Gionta added another Sabres goal just 12 second later. Justin Falk and Johan Larsson assisted. And less then two minutes later, Eichel grabbed another. Okposo and Moulson assisted again.

L.A. made it 4-3 with an unassisted goal by Carter at 4:03 of the third period. Evander Kane made it 5-3 at 15:42, assisted by Eichel and Okposo. Sam Reinhart added an empty-netter with just 26 seconds left in the game. Ristolainen assisted.

NOTES:

  • With the win, the Sabres have now gone 14-1-1 (one tie) in their last 16 home games against the Kings, dating back to a 2-0 Sabres win on Dec. 17, 1993.
  • Buffalo is now 8-0-0 in their last eight home games against the Kings, outscoring the visitors by a combined 39-12 margin in those contests.
  • The Sabres’ four goals in the second period marked the first time the team scored four or more in a period since the team scored five in the third period on Dec. 26, 2015 at Boston.
  • The Sabres’ two goals 12 seconds apart were their quickest since Cody Hodgson & Nathan Gerbe scored six seconds apart on April 9, 2013 vs. NY Rangers.
  • Jack Eichel, who scored two goals and recorded an assist tonight, now has 14 points (6+8) in his last 12 games played going back to last season, including four multi-point efforts in his last 10.
  • Brian Gionta scored his team-leading seventh even strength goal of the season.
