PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Purple Eagles women’s basketball team dropped a close game to the Drexel dragons on Tuesday.

The Purple Eagles and Dragons went back and forth on offense in the first quarter of the game. A three from Maggie McIntyre tied the score, 10-10, with a little over three minutes remaining in the quarter. With one second left in the first, Rampado scored two points to put Niagara ahead of Drexel, 14-12. The Dragons came back in the second quarter, taking a 23-16 lead but Sherburne scored five straight points to bring Niagara within one points of Drexel, 23-22. Rampado made another bucket with a little under a minute remaining in the first half of the game and, going into halftime, the Purple Eagles narrowly trailed the Dragons, 30-24.

Two consecutive buckets from Rampado to open the third quarter put the score at 30-28, with Drexel still in the lead. The Purple Eagles again came within two points of the Dragons, 33-31, after Tiffany Corselli sank a three with a little over seven and a half minutes remaining in the third.
Two points from Jai Moore to end the quarter left Niagara trailing 48-40 going into the final quarter of play. Corselli hit another 3-pointer with a little under nine minutes remaining in the game and Jamie Sherburne sank a 3-point shot with under five minutes remaining to put the Purple Eagles within five points of the Dragons, 57-52. With about a minute and a half remaining in the game, Rampado scored two and was fouled in the process; she converted the 3-point play to bring the score to 60-57, with Drexel narrowly ahead.

The Purple Eagles close out non-conference play at Fordham on Dec. 22 at 2 p.m.
