NEW YORK — A New York City woman who graduated from Hilbert penned a children’s book tackling the topic of shyness.

“Shy Violet Blue” is a children’s fable created by Carla Nagel, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who has served as a drama coach for the past several years, writing and directing many skits while working with students of various ages as well as in a variety of churches. While working as activity director in a local assisted living facility, she has enjoyed building a drama club while working with the seniors.

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Nagel’s new book teaches the value of believing in oneself as experienced through the eyes of a little girl.

“Shy Violet Blue” is a heartwarming story about a young girl named Violet Blue, who struggles with extreme shyness. The only friendship Violet has is with her pet caterpillar named Sonya. In this story, Violet and her caterpillar are temporarily separated. Both Violet and Sonya go through some not-so-easy but necessary transformations. Violet’s love for her pet is the motivation she needs to make some changes. This is an endearing story about love, growth, and development. In the end, it is love that sets her free.
