CORTLAND — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its men’s soccer all-conference teams today and recognized three Buffalo State players, including naming Bass Sarr (New York/JREC) as the league’s Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year.
Tristan Myers (Rochester/Webster Thomas) joined Sarr on the first team, and Sammy Wasson (Clarence/Clarence) was named to the second team.
Sarr, a sophomore forward, led the SUNYAC in scoring with 12 goals and 26 points in just 17 games played this season. The scoring sensation netted five game-winning goals including converting a penalty kick in a 2-0 victory over New Paltz in the SUNYAC quarterfinals. His 12 goals this season are the most in a year by a Bengal since Brian Miller netted 16 in 2003. Sarr, who was second team All-SUNYAC last season, has tallied 19 goals over 33 games in his first two seasons in the black and orange.
Myers is a first time All-SUNYAC honoree, garnering first team accolades. The junior nutrition major tallied six goals and six assists for 18 points in 18 games this season. Myers’ signature moment came when he netted the game-winning goal with one second remaining in overtime in a 2-1 win over Geneseo on Sept. 23.
Wasson is also a first-time honoree, earning second team distinction. The junior business major was a dominant force in the midfield for the Bengals. He posted three assists at the offensive end of the field, and played a vital role in Buffalo State’s defensive efforts that produced a 0.83 goals against average which was third-best in the SUNYAC this season.
Buffalo State finished the season 11-7-1 overall and qualified for the SUNYAC playoffs for the third time in four seasons under head coach Mark Howlett. The Bengals also earned their first postseason victory and advanced to the conference semifinals for the first time since 1984. Buffalo State’s 21 wins over the past two seasons are the most by the program in a two-year stretch since 1983-84.
