BUFFALO — Stephanie Ward and Jordan Johnson were named Athletes of the Week by the University at Buffalo.

This was the second time each athlete have been given the “Athlete of the Week” honors this season.

Ward led the way for the Bulls yet again at the MAC Championships. The freshman was the first Bull to cross the finish line, clocking in at 21:44.40, and averaging a 5:41.70 mile. Ward placed 13th out of 105 runners. Her placement was enough to earn All-MAC Second Team and Freshman of the Year honors.

Ward becomes the first UB cross country runner to earn Freshman of the Year accolades while also claiming the best finish by a freshman runner at the MAC Championships in program history (13th).

Jordan Johnson rushed for a school-record 282 yards and two touchdowns in Buffalo’s 41-20 win over Akron. He broke a school record that stood since 1991. Johnson only carried the ball 24 times for an 11.8 yards-per-carry average.

He had touchdown runs of 61 and 39 yards and had 10 carries of at least 10 yards. Johnson’s 282 rushing yards were the most by a MAC player this season and the fifth highest total by any player in the nation.

Johnson was also named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offense Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
