NEW HAVEN, CT – The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team wrapped up a perfect opening day at the ITA Regionals picking up a pair of doubles victories and one win in singles competition.

In doubles, junior Tanja Stojanovska and senior Margarita Kotok moved into the round of 16 following two victories.  First they took down Iryna Kostirko and Remi Ramos from Boston University, 8-5 and then they had a huge 8-3 win over Asiya Dair and Emily Safron of Boston College. Dair entered the tournament as the number one player overall in singles.  Stojanovska and Kotok will now play Daniel and Zhu from Penn on Sunday.

In singles play, sophomore Chantal Martinez Blanco won her opening match 6-3, 6-3 over Kirby Eink from Army and she will move on to face Andrea Kevakian of Columbia, who is ranked 17-32 in the main draw.  Stojanovska, who also entered the main draw with a 17-32 ranking, received a first round bye and she will now face Elizabeth Zordani from Yale.

Tomorrow’s action will continue with singles play beginning in the morning.  Stojanovska will be the 14th match on at roughly 10:30am, while Martinez Blanco will be the 18th match on.  There will be two rounds of singles played tomorrow. Doubles action will resume on Sunday.
