Sophomore Melaine Linsmair scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the 95th minute as the Griffs won 1-0 at Saint Peter’s Wednesday afternoon. The goal came off a corner kick from fellow classmate Emily Czechowski who put a shot in front of the net and Linsmair put the ball in. Freshman goalkeeper Alana Rossi had an easy time in net as she only saw four balls come her way, stopping all four shots. The win moves the Golden Griffins to 7-7-0 overall and 5-3-0 in MAAC play.

The Griffs controlled the match statistically, as they unloaded 15 shots towards the net with seven going on goal. Whereas, the Peacocks discharged 11 balls towards the goal with only four registering as shots on goal. Also Canisius had five corner kicks to Saint Peter’s four.

Canisius’ shot production came mostly from Linsmair as she aimed four shots of the Griffs 15 near the net with two going on goal, including the game-winner.

Canisius will return home Saturday, Oct. 22 to face Monmouth at the Demske Sports Complex. Game time is set for 1 p.m., and that game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
