Sophie F. Slivan, 99, of Wheatfield, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2016, in Northgate Health Care Facility. She was born on March 27, 1917, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Joseph and Agatha (Glamza) Avinas.

Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, in 1963. Dearest mother to Joan (late Sam) Arena and the late Stephen (Barbara) Slivan. Loving grandmother to Diane (Paul) Gambel, Patti (Bill) McMorris, Joanne (Tim) Verroche, Stephen, Thomas, Joseph, and Susan Slivan, and the late Sammy Arena. Great-grandmother to Jacob McMorris, Benjamin and Sydney Verroche. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Sophie worked for Twin Fair for 30 years. She was a self-taught impeccable seamstress and was a master flower gardener. She also enjoyed crocheting and daily crossword puzzles. She loved her “grand dogs” and looked forward to their visits. She had a great sense of humor and loved being with her family.

The family will be present on Saturday, October 22, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY, with a memorial service immediately following. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kenmore, NY.
