PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team sent two student-athletes to the Farnsworth Invitational this past weekend at Princeton University.

Competing for the Bulls were juniors Vidit Vaghela and Petr Vodak, who put an exclamation point on the weekend with a championship in the “A” doubles flight.  The duo made it to the finals with three victories, beginning with an 8-7 win over Pedro Carvalho and Diego Garnel from Fairleigh Dickinson.  Vaghela and Vodak then defeated Ethan Bogard and Colin Nardella of Lehigh, 8-6, and in the semifinals they beat Chris Gladden and Gianlucca Massa of Marist.  The Bulls won the championship by forfeit.

In singles play, both individuals lost their opening matches, but then had great success in the back draw. Vodak won his first match in the consolation bracket against Gladden 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 and then he defeated Danilo Vukotic of Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-3, 6-1. Vodak won the consolation bracket due to forfeit, but got one more match in, defeating Dylan Fletcher of Marist, 6-0, 6-2.

Vaghela also made it to the finals of his consolation bracket beginning with a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 10-7 win over Daniel Skripnik of St. John’s and he followed that up with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Eric Biscoveanu of Temple.  Vaghela fell in the consolation finals to Joseph Miles Conlin of Army.

“I thought this was a really good weekend for Petr and Vidit,” said head coach Lee Nickell.  “For Vidit this was his first completion of the year and even though we started slow, we rebounded nicely and I like where we are at heading into the last two tournaments this fall.”

Next up for the Bulls will be the ITA Regionals, which gets underway Oct. 20.
