KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (6-6-2, 3-3-0 MAC) saw their three match winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon on the road at Kent State, falling 1-0. The Golden Flashes scored in the 16th minute and held onto their 10th straight win despite being outshot 10-7 in the match.

The Golden Flashes had the first scoring chance of the match in the fourth minute as Jenna Hellstrom raced in and ripped a shot that went wide.

In the eighth minute, Gurjeena Jandu had a shot was that saved by Katie Kingsbury and then a minute later Nicole Gerritz had a shot on goal that was saved by the keeper. After Laura Dougall made a nice stop on Jenna Hellstrom in the 12th minute, Hellstrom found the back of the net in the 16th minute to give Kent State the 1-0 lead. Carissima Cutrona had a chance to tie the match in the 21st minute but her shot was saved by the Golden Flashes keeper. Mairead Martin had UB’s final shot of the opening half in the 32nd minute that was saved by the Kent State keeper.

In the 54th minute, Carissima Cutrona broke in and ripped a shot that was saved. UB had a flurry in the 61st minute as Gurjeena Jandu’s shot was poked out of bounds, giving the Bulls a corner. On the ensuing corner, Ashley Evans sent it into the box where Nicole Gerritz got her head on the ball but it went over the top of the cage. After Gurjeena Jandu’s shot was stopped, Laura Dougall made a nice save on Donavan Capehart’s header, keeping the score 1-0. The Bulls final chance to tie the match came in the 89th minute but Andrea Niper’s shot went wide.

With the loss, the Bulls fall to 0-4-1 on the road this season including 0-3 in MAC play on the road. The Bulls held the 10-7 edge in shots and the 3-0 lead in corner kicks for the match. Gurjeena Jandu and Carissima Cutrona led all UB players with three shots for the game. Junior goalkeeper Laura Dougall finished off her match with three saves in the loss.

The Bulls will hit the road for a MAC match at Western Michigan at 4 p.m. Friday. The matchup will be a rematch of the MAC semifinals from 2015 when the Broncos downed UB 1-0 to advance to the MAC Championship.
