Raymond L. “Louie” Oates passed away Wednesday September 28, 2016, in Absolut of Gasport under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Lockport on June 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward and Ella Clark Oates.

Louie Served in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946, during WWII with the Landing Craft Infantry. The WWII LCI Group, would meet every year for reunion and was also a member of the American Legion. Louie was a jeweler and watchmaker for LeBar’s Jewelry Store, in Lockport and later owned and operated Oate’s Jewelers together with his wife. He enjoyed fishing, especially fly fishing, which he would tie his fly lures himself and he enjoyed playing golf.

Louie is survived by his wife, Alice (nee Keryk) Oates; father of Richard (Wendy) Oates and Diane Oates; and grandfather of Richard Oates Jr. and Jessica Oates. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas Oates.

There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 1, 2016 at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church. 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Niagara Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
