For the third week in a row, the national average for a gallon of regular gas drifted lower after April’s big rise in prices. Oil prices have risen slightly to the $80 to $84 a barrel range, up $2 from a week ago. In addition, according to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand rose only slightly last week, while the overall supply of gasoline mostly stayed the same. Lackluster pre-Memorial Day demand and steady or falling oil prices could keep pump prices relatively flat ahead of the holiday weekend.

Diesel prices are moving down. The national average price for diesel is $3.90, down three cents from last Monday. The New York average is $4.36, down two cents from a week ago.
