BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team continued its impressive start to the fall season on Saturday, putting seven players into the finals of singles flights on Sunday.

In the “A” singles flight, Tanja Stojanovska picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win to move into the finals where she will face teammate Chantal Martinez Blanco, who won her contest 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Mercedes Losada Rubio clinched a spot in the “B” Flight final with a 6-3, 6-2 win, while Margarita Kotok won 6-3, 6-3 to make it into the consolation finals.

It will also be all-UB affairs in the finals in both the C and D Flight finals as the “C” Flight will feature freshman Emel Abibula, who won 6-3, 6-2, and Sanjana Sudhir, who won her match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.  In the “D” Flight, senior Laura Holterbosch, who won 6-3, 6-2, will face sophomore Haley Hollins, who won 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles action, Kotok and Stojanovska won the “A” doubles draw as they won their semifinal match 8-3 and then won in the finals, 8-4. After dropping their opening match yesterday, Hollins and Sudhir won the “B” doubles consolation bracket, 8-2.  Losada Rubio and Martinez Blanco won their semifinal match 8-3, before falling in the championship 8-2.

Action will conclude at the UB Invitational Sunday at 10:00 am.
