BINGHAMTON — The University at Buffalo men’s soccer team (8-2-0, 0-0-0 MAC) dropped their second match of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Binghamton Bearcats handed UB a 3-0 defeat.

The Bulls were able to record the first shot on goal of the match in the sixth minute as Scott Doney saw his header saved by the Binghamton keeper. After Joseph Kuta made a pair of saves in the 11th minute, the Bearcats got on the board in the 17th minute as Nikos Psarras found the back of the net with a hard shot after a pass from Charlie Novoth. The Bearcats nearly made it 2-0 in the 26th minute of action but Joseph Kuta made a nice stop on the shot by Ben Ovetsky. Binghamton broke through with their second goal of the half in the 36th minute as Nikos Psarras netted his second goal of the match as he took a feed from Harrison Weilbacher. The half came to an end with the Bearcats holding the 10-4 edge in shots.

Ryan Periera had the Bulls first shot of the second half as he ripped a shot that went over the top of the cage. The Bearcats were able to add another goal in the 59th minute to take the dominant 3-0 lead as Stephen McKenna netted his first of the season. Isaiah Barrett and Ben Ovetsky picked up the assists on the goal. The Bulls tried to respond with a goal of their own a minute later but Steven Stryker and Rikard Lindqvist both saw their shots go wide of the goal. UB had their final chances to net a goal in the 83rd minute as Austin Place and Hunter Walsh saw their attempts saved by the Binghamton keeper.

UB Head Coach Stu Riddle said, “We’ve had a lot of games in a short period of time, a lot of travel and it showed in a very jaded lethargic showing. You cannot make the defensive errors we did and continually miss good chances and expect to win a match. We have a full week to rest and recover and we will go to Duquesne next week looking for a much improved showing.”

The Bulls have a week off before heading down to Duquesne to take on the Dukes on Oct. 1 in their final non-conference match before opening MAC play. First kick is set for 7:00 pm.
