BUFFALO — Bass Sarr (New York/JREC) scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season in the first half, providing Buffalo State all the offense it would need in its 2-0, SUNYAC win over Brockport this afternoon at Coyer Field.

Sarr continued his scorching scoring streak, finding the back of the net off a cross from Devonte Black (Pickering, ON/Notre Dame Cathloic) 7:27 into the game. Just eight minutes later, Sarr converted again, this time take advantage of an errant Brockport header in the box and heading it home himself to give the Bengals a 2-0 lead. A Buffalo State off-sides wiped out what would have been Sarr’s third goal of the game. Since missing the first two games of the season, the sophomore has scored eight goals in eight games.

A physical match ensued during the remainder of the first and second half, with the Bengals falling back to what has been lock-down defensive play this season.  Buffalo State held Brockport scoreless for the remainder of the afternoon, as the Golden Eagles managed just four second-half shots (two on net). William Banahene (Rochester/Brighton) made three saves to record his fourth shutout of the season in the victory. The Bengals sit atop the SUNYAC standings at 2-0 after the opening weekend of conference play.

Today’s win was the first for Buffalo State over Brockport since Sept. 15, 2001.

Buffalo State will head on the road to take on Fredonia (6-2-1, 1-1-0) on Oct. 1 at 1:00 p.m.
