PITTSFORD — Buffalo State erased a two-set deficit and roared past host St. John Fisher in five sets before falling in three against Baldwin Wallace on the opening day of the Cardinal Classic.

Buffalo State dropped the first two set against the host Cardinals, 23-25 and 19-25, but roared back for the victory, winning 25-21, 25-23 and 15-12. Lauren Hansen (Blue Point/Bayport Blue Point) had a season-best 15 kills to go with four aces and 15 digs. Meg Brandon (Flint, MI/Grand Blanc) had 32 assists and three aces for the Bengals. Dana Mancuso (Kenmore/Kenmore West) added seven kills and 10 digs, and Victoria Rigler (Amherst/Sweet Home) chipped in 15 digs.

The Yellowjackets cruised in the nightcap, hitting .462, while the Bengals had a .035 attack percentage. Hansen had 10 kills for Buffalo State. Katherine Marte (Ithaca/Ithaca) finished with 15 assists.

Buffalo State will conclude the tournament Saturday with matches against Penn State Behrend and Allegheny at 10 a.m. and noon respectively.
