LEWISBURG, Pa. – The University at Buffalo volleyball team opened play at the Bucknell Invitational on Friday with a 3-0 loss to Oakland.

The Golden Grizzlies took the contest 25-15, 25-22, 25-20.  The Bulls did make some runs in the match as in the second set they trailed 14-8 when Buffalo went on a 12-5 run to take a 20-19 lead, however Oakland ended the set on a 6-2 run.

In the third set, UB got out to a 6-2 advantage, but Oakland scored six straight points to go ahead 8-6.  The set remained tight as it was tied at 19-19 when Oakland scored five straight points and ended the set and the match on a 6-1 run.

Sophomore Valisha Watkins led UB with seven kills, while senior Amber Hatchett had six kills and no errors on 14 swings.  Megan Wernette and Cassie Shado each had five kills. Freshman Scout McLerran had 21 assists to lead UB.

Defensively, freshman Hannah Watson had a team-high 13 digs, while Watkins added nine and Madison Clark had eight.  The Bulls had 9.0 total blocks, led by six from Wernette, who had three solos.

UB continues action Saturday when they play Cornell at 10 a.m. and the host Bucknell at 6 p.m.
