BUFFALO — Buffalo Public Schools sent out an alert to parents and staff today warning them of an incident with a female student who was reportedly followed this morning by an unknown male.

The alert, sent by phone, was also posted to the district’s website. It follows in its entirety:

This is Kevin Eberle, Chief Operations Officer for the Buffalo Public Schools.

The purpose of this call is to inform you of reports of a person who followed a female student on the lower west side this morning.  Police have been notified and are aware of school arrival and dismissal times.

The incident involved a male, possibly Latino, on foot, 5’5″ to 5’7″, heavy set, brown hair, thin beard, waist length brownish-grey coat, on Niagara and Virginia, who followed the student to Maryland Street. A Buffalo Public School Safety Resource Officer met with the student and subsequently reported to B District.

Please have a conversation with your children regarding how to avoid strangers and make them aware of the description of this person, along with the message that all similar incidents are to be avoided and should be reported.  These occurrences provide the opportunity for you to talk about personal safety in general, and the importance of looking out for the safety of others as well.
