Junior midfielder Julia Benati continued to prove that she is one of the most dangerous playmakers in the MAC on Friday night as she led the Bulls to a 3-0 victory over visiting Canisius. The crafty midfielder finished off her impressive match with a goal and an assist. Benati finished off the match with four shots and three on goal while notching her second assist of the season on a perfect corner kick into the box where Andrea Niper headed home her first goal of the season. Just over five minutes later, Benati had a free kick opportunity from 25 yards out and struck a great ball that cleared the keeper and went into the upper right corner of the net for her second goal of the season. The three-point game was her second of the season and she also leads the Bulls in shots with 26 on the year.

Senior Russell Cicerone continued to have a flair for the dramatic this weekend as he helped the Bulls collect a pair of victories as they improved to 6-0 on the year, marking the best start in program history since 2005 when they started 8-0. Cicerone finished off his weekend with a goal and an assist as UB earned two road victories, giving them a perfect 3-0 road record so far this season. On Friday afternoon, Cicerone notched an assist on the second goal of the game by fellow senior Braden Scales as he sent a perfect through ball to Scales who finished off the breakaway to the left corner. He also finished off Friday’s match with a game-high six shots and four shots on goal. On Sunday, Cicerone capped off his strong weekend for the Bulls with the game-winning goal in the 99th minute of play on the penalty kick. The senior calmly stepped in and beat the keeper to the left corner of the net after being robbed earlier in the match on another penalty kick opportunity. The game-winner was his second of the season and he has converted on 3-of-5 penalty kick chances on the year. The lethal scorer now leads the nation in goals (8) and points (21) while also leading the conference in shots with 34. For his career, Cicerone ranks second in program history in goals (36), assists (18) and points (90) and has racked up an amazing 12 game-winning goals over his four-year UB career.
