HAMILTON — The Canisius golf team closed out its first weekend of the 2016 fall schedule on Sunday, as the Golden Griffins played the third and final round of the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational at Seven Oakes Golf Club. Canisius posted a team score of 312 in the final round and ended the 54-hole event in 12th place with a team score of 963.

Canisius freshman David Hanes finished tied for 15th in the field after he shot a score of 75 on Sunday, for a three-round tally 224. Junior Mark Lesinski tied for 26th in his first event for the Griffs with a three-round score of 229. He shot 77 on Sunday. Sophomore John Dantonio carded a 78 on Sunday, his lowest round of the young season.

The Delaware Blue Hens took the team championship with a three-round team score of 880, which was 13 strokes better than second-place Cornell. Delaware’s Marc Oliveri won individual medalist honors after he finished the tournament with a score of 214.

Canisius will return to the course Sept. 17-18 when the Griffs travel to take part in the 54-hole Cornell Invitational. That tournament will be played at Cornell’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca.
