BUFFALO — Behind a strong second half performance, the University at Buffalo women’s soccer team (2-2-2, 0-0-0 MAC) collected a big 3-1 victory over Navy on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium. Carissima Cutrona netted a pair of second half goals to lift the Bulls to victory, giving the sophomore two career two-goal games.

Navy had the first chance of the match in the fifth minute as Ash Fairow ripped a shot from in close that Laura Dougall made the stop on. The Mids got on the board first in the 10th minute of play as Ash Fairow crossed a great ball into the box where Clare MacAdam buried her team leading fourth goal of the year. Two minutes later, freshman Adrianna VanCuyck saved a goal as Ash Fairow had a open net but her blast was blocked away by VanCuyck. In the 32nd minute, Adrianna VanCuyck had the Bulls first great chance of the game as she ripped a shot on goal from 18-yards out that was saved by the Navy keeper.

The Bulls were able to get the equalizing goal in the 44th minute as Ashley Evans placed a great corner into the box where freshman Mairead Martin headed home her first career goal into the left corner of the net. In the 49th minute, Eleanor Pratt hit a free kick from 30 yards out that was saved by a leaping Laura Dougall, who made another huge save in the 59th minute as Clare MacAdam broke in all alone and Dougall dropped to a knee and blocked the hard shot away.

The Bulls had their best chance of the second half in the 68th minute as Nicole Gerritz found Carissima Cutrona in the box but her right-footed shot went right on goal and was saved by the Navy keeper. The Bulls took the 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute as Moira Petrie sent Nicole Gerritz in deep with a pass and she crossed it into the box where Carissima Cutrona ripped home her team-leading fourth goal of the season. The lead was extended to 3-1 in the 77th minute as Carissima Cutrona took a great feed from Adrianna VanCuyck and she netted her second of the match into the right corner. Aiming for her first career hat-trick, Carissima Cutrona ripped a shot in the 87th minute that was saved by the diving Navy keeper.

With the win, the Bulls improve to 2-0-1 at UB Stadium this season.

The Bulls return to UB Stadium on Friday as they welcome Big 4 foe Canisius. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
