BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo men’s soccer team (4-0-0, 0-0-0 MAC) broke a 25-year program record for consecutive shutouts to start a season on Sunday afternoon as they downed the Incarnate Word Cardinals 1-0. The Bulls have now recorded a program-best four straight shutouts to start the season.

Two minutes into the match, Tommy Fogarty-Cameron forced the keeper to give the ball away right to Russell Cicerone’s feet, the senior’s shot just missed the left corner of the wide open goal.
In the 5th minute, Tommy Fogarty-Cameron just missed the left corner of the net after Rikard Lindqvist sent a great ball into the box on the free kick. Rikard Lindqvist had a great chance to get the first of the game in the eighth minute but his left-footed shot just missed the top of the goal, going over the cage.

Incarnate Word got their first shot of the match in the 12th minute of play as Daniel Nevarez’s blast went soaring over the cross bar and out of play. The Cardinals had a free kick opportunity from just outside the box in the 38th minute but Fernando Laverde’s shot went just over the cross bar, keeping the game scoreless. Incarnate Word had a great chance in the 40th minute but Darius Feldman’s shot just missed the right corner.

The Bulls had a great chance to score the first goal of the game in the 48th minute but Tommy Fogarty-Cameron’s header off the perfect corner from Daniel Cramarossa went just over the cross bar. The Bulls finally broke through with their first goal of the match in the 59th minute as Rikard Lindqvist was dragged down in the box giving the Bulls a penalty kick. On the ensuing penalty kick, Russell Cicerone netted his nation leading seventh goal of the season as he beat the keeper to the right corner.

In the 62nd minute, Incarnate Word had their first shot on goal of the match as Miguel Ojeda ripped a shot from distance that Joseph Kuta scooped up. Incarnate Word had a chance in the 69th minute but Thomas Bibby’s long shot was swallowed up by a diving Joseph Kuta.

Buffalo had the final dangerous chance of the match in the 85th minute of play as Russell Cicerone took a blast from close range that hit the cross bar and went out of play.

With the win, the Bulls improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2005 when they started the season 8-0.

The Bulls will hit the road on Friday as they travel to take on VMI at 7:00 p.m. They will stay on the road Sunday as they head to Liberty for a 1:00 p.m. clash.
