HAMBURG — The U.S. Coast Guard is currently searching Lake Erie for a missing fisherman they believe went overboard Tuesday morning.
Hamburg Police found an unmanned boat around 1 p.m. with multiple fishing poles and coolers filled with ice, but no one on board. They then requested help from the Coast Guard, who responded with a rescue boat to search the shoreline.
The Coast Guard also called for the assistance of a helicopter and Erie County’s Marine One unit. Canada assisted with a C-130, as well.
It is believed that the fisherman is Canadian, although his identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
