TOWN OF LOCKPORT — The Transit Drive-In Theatre‘s annual ‘Retro Tuesday’ lineup includes at least a couple movies celebrating significant anniversaries, as well as a tip of the drive-in hat to David Bowie.

It may be hard to believe, but “Ferris Bueller” turns 30 this year. And nearly 30 days to the date of its original release, it will be back on the drive-in screen, paired with “The Breakfast Club” on June 7.

Another landmark anniversary is “Space Jam,” celebrating 20 years since its release. It will be paired with Spaceballs on July 19. Sequels have been rumored for both flicks.

“Labyrinth” celebrates 30 years this summer, as well. It’s showing at the drive-in is more likely a tribute to the recent passing of David Bowie. Or maybe it’s both. Who knows. It’s paired with “The Goonies” on July 12.

Fans of Savage Steve Holland and John Cusack will be pleased to find “Better Off Dead” showing with “One Crazy Summer” on Aug. 9.

The full retro movie lineup follows:

  • June 7 – Ferris Bueller and The Breakfast Club
  • June 14 – Stand By Me and The Outsiders
  • June 21 – Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Wayne’s World
  • June 28 – Tommy Boy and Black Sheep
  • July 5 – Top Gun and Platoon
  • July 12 – The Goonies and Labyrinth
  • July 19 – Space Jam and Spaceballs
  • July 26 – Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire
  • Aug. 2 – Little Shop of Horrors and The Rocky Horror Picture Show
  • Aug. 9 – Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer
  • Aug. 16 – The Princess Bride and A Knights Tale
  • Aug. 23 – To be announced
  • Aug. 30 – Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction

Admission is $9 for age 12 and older, $4 for those aged 5-11, and free for kids 4 and under.

The drive-in’s fifth-screen project should be completed by the planned showing of what’s expected to be a summer blockbuster: “Finding Dory,” a sequel to 2003’s “Finding Nemo.”

“Weather permitting, we expect to have the new screen open by June 17,” said drive-in owner Rick Cohen, adding that the screen will help “accommodate extra parking capacity for big summer family movies during our peak business season from mid-June to mid-August, when we plan to show the most popular movie on multiple screens to avoid turning families away.”
