The National Weather Service has issued a “special weather statement” for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon throughout northern Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee and Monroe counties.

An area of showers with embedded thunderstorms extends from the Niagara River to near Braddock Bay — moving northeast at 25 mph. Occasional lightning and dime-sized hail are possible during the storm.

Impacted locations include Buffalo, Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, Lockport, Medina and Hamlin Beach. It includes I-90 between exits 54 and 48A.

The weather service also issued a “hazardous weather outlook” for Thursday through Tuesday in northern and southern Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Chatautauqua and Monroe counties for “moderate to strong southwest winds” across the Niagara Frontier to Rochester.
